Interview With Brett Driver, Director And Writer Of upcoming fan film "Silent Hill: Lost days"

Date: Jan 27th, 2014 By: Tyler

1.  When did you first get into filming and was there any particular film/game that was an influence in that?

Brett: I first got into filmmaking when I was around the age of 14. My dad had an old VHS camera that was about as big as me, I would always film small skits on it with friends.

I've always been a gamer at heart, Survival Horror was and still to this day my favorite genre. I believe that all started with my love of George Romero films, (however ultimately I do think Silent Hill 2 was my BIGGEST influence for wanting to make films.

2. What is Silent Hill to you?

Brett: Silent Hill to me is purgatory, It's that place in your mind where you face all your past and present sins, there is no running from it. Konami really created such a powerful premise for such a psychological theme, I don't know if you originally saw my campaign video,

but I'm sort of a hopeless character myself, I've been through hard times, depression, loss.. So, Silent Hill really impacted me in a HUGE way.

3.  Is Silent Hill 2 your favorite in the series?

Brett: Silent Hill 2 is my personal favorite. The setup for the game was eerie, and we truly had to understand, and learn things the same way and time James did. No other game did that.

4.  At what point in the game does Lost Days take place? ( Fan question )

Brett: 'Lost Days' takes place just before Mary's illness diagnosis. Although, It's a short you see a glimpse of some of the hardships they faced in their relationship. However, ultimately the short is about James falling into darkness thus creating his own personal hell.

5. Can we expect to see more creatures aside from Red Pyramid? ( Fan question )

Brett: Unfortunately, No.  There will not be any other monsters in this short besides Red Pyramid head. My goal for this wasn't to scare the crap out of you. I wanted to create a short that explored the reasoning behind James decisions. (It's more emotional, than scary.)

6.  Can we look forward to getting some scares in Silent Hill: Lost Days? ( fan question )

Brett: Viewers may not get any scares out of this particular project. (Hopefully, if it's something fans are drawn to. We could expand on this more in the future and create something bigger.)

7.  Is it true what I heard about the location? I heard the house used to be a hospital back in the day.

Brett: There is an extensive amount of history behind the location we filmed in. Starlin Britt (James Sunderland)   May be able to tell you more about this as it's his story.  But, Yes!  The old victorian home was used as a Hospital during the Civil War. There was a lot of history behind it,

and the age of the home showed. It was a pretty eerie experience filming there.

8.  How long will Lost Days run, and do you have an idea of when us anxious fans can finally see it?

Brett: I originally wanted the film to be a lot longer.. After completing multiple cuts, I realized it works much better as a simple short. I would rather it be short and sweet, than long and drawn out. (I hope you all feel the same.)  I expect for 'Lost Days' to drop by mid February.
